Set up B2B Desk
Follow the guided setup or the setup guide on the B2B Desk Home page, from adding the application form to approving your first wholesale buyer.
The first time you open B2B Desk, the guided setup walks you through it one step at a time. After you finish or skip it, the Set up B2B Desk guide on the Home page keeps track of what’s left.
The guided setup
The guided setup opens with a list of its five steps. Click Start setup to begin, or click any step to go straight to it.
- Add the application form to your store. Click Add form to a page, click Save in the theme editor, then come back to the B2B Desk tab. The step ticks itself off.
- Choose who hears about new applications. Your store’s email address is filled in. Click Turn on email alerts, or change the address first.
- Decide what approved buyers get. Pick payment terms, a pricing tier and the tax setting, then click Save preset. The summary below the fields lists what approving with the preset does in Shopify.
- Give B2B buyers a faster way to order (optional). Adds the Order Pad the same way as the form.
- Approve your first application. Apply through your application form with your own email address, come back to the B2B Desk tab, then open the application and approve it.
Each step shows Done once B2B Desk detects it, and the setup ends with links to automation, catalogs and applicant emails.
Click Skip this step to move on without finishing a step. To leave the guided setup, click Skip for now on the first screen or Finish later on any step. To come back to it, click use the guided setup in the setup guide on Home.
The setup guide on Home
The Set up B2B Desk guide at the top of the app’s Home page has six tasks. Each task ticks itself off when B2B Desk detects it’s done, so you can do them in any order. Two of them are optional.
| Task | What it gives you | Ticks off when |
|---|---|---|
| Add the application form to your store | A page where buyers apply for a wholesale account | The Wholesale application block is active on your published theme, or you click Mark as done |
| Turn on the wholesale bar (optional) | A slim bar that invites visitors to apply and links B2B buyers to quick order | The Wholesale bar app embed is on in your published theme |
| Choose who hears about new applications | An email or Slack message for every new application | At least one staff email address or a Slack webhook is saved |
| Create an approval preset | One-step approvals with your usual pricing, payment terms and tax settings | At least one preset exists |
| Add the Order Pad for B2B buyers (optional) | A quick order grid at each buyer’s catalog prices | The Order pad block is active on your published theme |
| Approve your first application | A real company, contact and location in Shopify | At least one application is Approved |
The guide shows your progress as “2 of 6 tasks complete” and opens on the first task that isn’t done.
Add the application form
Click Add form to a page. The theme editor opens on your default page template with the Wholesale application block already added in a new Apps section. Click Save in the theme editor.
If your store only sells to logged-in buyers, visitors can’t see a form on your storefront. Click Copy hosted page link instead and share that link. Because a hosted link can’t be detected on your theme, click Mark as done to tick the task off. See Use the hosted application page.
Turn on the wholesale bar
Click Turn on wholesale bar. The theme editor opens on App embeds with the bar switched on. Click Save.
The bar links visitors to /pages/wholesale and signed-in B2B buyers to /pages/quick-order. B2B Desk doesn’t create those pages, so either create pages with those addresses or change the links in the embed’s settings. See Add the wholesale bar.
Choose who hears about new applications
Click Set up notifications to open Settings › Notifications. Add up to 10 staff email addresses, a Slack incoming webhook, or both. A generic webhook also works for alerts, but it doesn’t tick this task off. See Get notified about new applications.
Create an approval preset
Click Create a preset to open Settings › Approval presets. A preset holds the payment terms, pricing, tax setting, contact role and tags you give most buyers, so approving takes one click. See Save your approval settings as presets.
Add the Order Pad
Click Add Order Pad to a page. Like the form, the block lands on your default page template, so create a separate template for your quick order page first if you only want it there. See Add the Order Pad to your store.
Approve your first application
When applications are waiting, the button reads Review applications. Otherwise it reads Open application form, which opens your hosted application page in a new tab.
To try the whole flow before a real buyer applies, submit an application with your own details and approve it.
Collapse or dismiss the guide
Click the arrow next to the guide’s title to collapse it. The guide stays collapsed on later visits. The guide also starts collapsed once every task is done.
Click X to dismiss it. Dismissing is permanent, so keep the guide until the tasks you care about are done.
