What you need before you start
B2B Desk builds on Shopify's native B2B. Check your plan, customer accounts, B2B markets, catalogs and theme so approvals and wholesale prices work.
B2B Desk creates and updates Shopify’s own B2B records: companies, locations, contacts, B2B markets and catalogs. It doesn’t replace any of them, so your Shopify B2B setup decides what buyers get. Check these four things before you approve your first buyer.
A Shopify plan with B2B
Native B2B is on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus plans, and B2B Desk works on all four.
- On Basic, Grow and Advanced, you can have up to three active B2B catalogs. Buyers get wholesale prices through B2B markets: a company location in a B2B market sees the catalog that market carries.
- On Plus, you can also assign catalogs to company locations directly. B2B Desk detects Plus and shows catalog pickers instead of market pickers.
New customer accounts
B2B buyers sign in with Shopify’s new customer accounts, which email a one-time code instead of asking for a password. The approval email B2B Desk sends tells buyers to sign in at your store’s /account page with the email they applied with.
Check that new customer accounts are on under Settings › Customer accounts in your Shopify admin.
A B2B market with a catalog
Approving a buyer on Basic, Grow or Advanced adds their company location to the B2B market you pick as the Pricing tier. B2B Desk reads your markets and catalogs but doesn’t create them, so set up at least one before you approve buyers who should get wholesale prices:
- Create a catalog with your wholesale prices and any quantity rules or volume pricing.
- Create a B2B market that includes specific company locations, and add the catalog to it.
A location in a market without a catalog sees retail prices, and a location in no B2B market sees no B2B prices. How Shopify decides a B2B buyer’s price explains the rules.
A theme that supports app blocks
The application form and the Order Pad are theme app blocks, and the wholesale bar is an app embed. You add all three in the theme editor without editing theme code. They need an Online Store 2.0 theme, which all of Shopify’s current free themes are.
If your store is closed to everyone except logged-in B2B buyers, visitors can’t reach a form on your storefront. Use the hosted application page instead.
