Check what a buyer pays

Use Price check to see the unit price one company location pays for one product, which catalog sets it, how it compares to retail and its quantity rules.

Updated 2 min read

Price check answers “what does this buyer pay for this, and why?” without signing in as them. Use it when a buyer asks about a price, after changing catalogs or markets, or before you approve someone into a pricing tier.

Run a price check

  1. In B2B Desk, go to Catalogs and click Price check.
  2. Choose a Company location. Locations are grouped by company, and a search box appears when you have more than 30.
  3. Click Choose product and pick a variant in Shopify’s product picker.

Read the result

The result opens with “What Northwind Café, Portland pays per unit” and the unit price, with a badge such as 22% below retail, or Retail price when no catalog applies.

Detail What it tells you
Catalog The catalog that sets the price, with its adjustment, like “Cafés wholesale (-22%)”, or “(fixed price)”
Why this price One sentence explaining the path, see below
Retail price The regular price, for comparison
Compare-at price The variant’s compare-at price, or “None”
Quantity rule Like “Minimum 2, no maximum, in multiples of 2”, or “None. Buyers can order any quantity.”
SKU The variant’s SKU, if it has one
Volume pricing A table of breaks, like “24+” at $23.50, or “No price breaks. Every quantity pays the unit price.”

Why this price

Sentence Meaning
“This location is in the B2B Cafés market, so it gets the Cafés wholesale catalog.” The price comes through the location’s B2B market
“This location has the Hotels VIP catalog assigned directly, which takes precedence over market catalogs.” Plus: a directly assigned catalog applies
“This location has no catalog and is in no B2B market, so it pays retail prices.” Fix with Move to market or Assign catalog
“This location is in the B2B Wholesale market, which has no active catalog, so it pays retail prices.” Add an active catalog to that market in Shopify

When more than one catalog applies, the sentence adds “Shopify charges the lowest price per product across them.” and a Catalogs for this location table lists each catalog’s price for the product, with an Applied badge on the one that wins.

If something’s wrong

  • “This location no longer exists. Choose another one.” or “This product no longer exists. Choose another one.” The location or product was deleted in Shopify.
  • “The price check didn’t finish” means Shopify didn’t answer. Click Try again.
