Finish an approval that stopped
What to do when an approval fails partway or stops making progress, how Retry remaining steps works, and the most common causes.
An approval runs up to eight steps in Shopify. If one fails or stops, the application stays in Approving and B2B Desk tells you which step. Nothing is lost, and finished steps never run twice.
How you’ll know
- Home shows a banner such as “Approval of Northwind Café stopped partway”, with Open application.
- The application shows one of two banners:
| Banner | Meaning |
|---|---|
| “Company created; payment terms failed” (or another step), “The company could not be created”, or a step name with “failed” | Shopify rejected a step. The error follows in the banner. |
| “Approval has stopped making progress” | No step finished for a few minutes, with no error. |
The Approval card lists every step as Done, Not needed, In progress, Failed or Waiting, with the error next to the failed one.
Retry as it is
Click Retry remaining steps. B2B Desk continues from the first unfinished step. If the company was already created, it reuses that company, so a retry never creates a second one.
Use this when the error looks temporary, or when you’ve fixed the cause in Shopify, for example by restoring a market you deleted.
Fix the details and approve again
When the error is about a value in the form, like an address or the payment terms, change it in the approval form and click Approve again. The timeline shows “Plan revised; retrying failed steps”.
Once the company has been created, the company and location can’t change in the form: “Already set up in Shopify, so the company and location can’t change here.”
Common causes
| Error mentions | What to do |
|---|---|
| Payment terms | Choose a different payment terms option, or none, and approve again |
| A market or catalog | The market or catalog may have been deleted or changed in Shopify. Pick another Pricing tier, or none, and approve again. Markets that include specific company locations work best. |
| An address | Fix the address. State codes look like CO, countries like US |
| A role | Retry. If it fails again, check the company’s roles in Shopify |
| Access denied | B2B Desk is missing a Shopify permission. Contact B2B Desk through its App Store listing. |
If an application stays in Approving, it isn’t deleted, and you can retry at any time.
